Background
Messy kitchen conditions, boring cooking processes, perhaps unappetizing meals, etc. What can we do to improve this?
Challenges
Since each individual kitchen space and needs are different, the project had the following challenges in the design process
-
Utilization of kitchen space
-
Interaction and combination of various kitchen products
-
Make the cooking process easier and more fun
Design processes
After the design team brainstormed, we decided to adopt a modular product design concept. The reason is that it is easier to utilize the kitchen space and give more options to the users. Here are some of the hand-drawn sketches.
We disassembled some of the products to fully understand the internal structure as well as the principle, and conducted a 1-to-1 product modeling.
We used building blocks to simulate several product options and forms of kitchen space utilization.
Product design part
The final decision was made to use the following three product combinations:
Standard
cooking hob
scale (size S)
chopping board (size S) powermodule
Premium
double cooking hob
scale (size L)
chopping board (size S) powermodule
Luxury
double cooking hob
scale (size L)
chopping board (size L)
grill
powermodule
User interface Design part
To make it easier for users to interact with smart kitchen products, I independently designed the mobile app Smate, which helps users to record intake components such as calories, fats, and nutrients. It can also recommend a menu according to eating habits, buy/upgrade product modules online.
